My first blog here at Molinar Home Design (MHD) and so this is really a test. I really feel I have a lot to blog about regarding residential addition and remodel projects in particular as I have done so many of them in the East Bay (specifically Danville, Alamo, San Ramon, Dublin, Livermore, and Pleasanton and the whole 580/680 corridor). Lately I have been getting requests for ADU's as California zoning rules permit home owners to do ADU's (Accessory Dwelling Units) more. They are also known as granny flats or in-law units. Anyway, I am currently designing (2) custom homes in Castro Valley for 2-separate clients and a spec/custom for a lot in the Oakland hills. Of course, there is a lot of calls from people looking to do additions and remodel and adding value to their homes. My firm has proudly focused on residential projects for nearly 20 years, so we have a lot of experience listening to clients dreams and needs, successfully working with City and County Planning and Building departments, coordinating with consultants (including Structural engineers, Civil engineers, landscape designers, etc.) and working with General contractors to create successful projects. This may be enough for my first blog and I look forward to adding useful information in future blogs, maybe writing about, the design process, what to expect from your architect or designer, how to evaluate a lot for building potential, siting your ADU or custom home, economical roof forms, etc. MHD out for now.
